note: mskeen (m), mskeena (f), masakeen/ msakn (plural).

Independent Pronouns

Moroccan arabic

-We call the following pronouns ‘independent’ because they aren’t attached to other words such as (nouns, verbs, prepositions).

- when they are followed by a noun or an adjective the verb ‘to be’ is not necessay. it is implied already. and simple sentences can be made by using independent pronouns with a nouns or adjectives.

Example :

- ana tbib  (أنا طبيب)  i am a doctor.

- nta mghyar (نت مغيار) you are jealous .

- nti ghdbana (نتِ غضبانه) you are angry.

- huwa rajl (هو راجل) he is a man.

- hiya mra (مرا) she is a woman.

- hna ghdbanin (حنا غضبانين) we are angry.

- ntuma mshghulin (نتما مشغولين) you are busy.

- huma nashtin (هما ناشطين) they are happy.

1) we can use the word 3mmr (عمّر) to express the english equivalent of the present perfect tense ‘have you ever...?’ we conjugate it as follows:
-   wash 3mmri/ 3mmrni… ?
 - have i ever.... ?              
 -  wash 3mmrk...?                 
- have you (sing) ever...?
-   wash 3mmru...?                 
- has he ever ... ?
-   wash 3mmrha...?               
- has she ever...?            
 -  wash 3mmrna...?                
- have we ever...?          
-  wash 3mmrkum...?            
- have you ever...?   
-   wash 3mmrhum...?            
- have they ever...?           

2 )the verb that follows 3mmr is often in the past tense.
-wash 3mmri aditk ?      have i ever hurt you ?
- wash 3mmrk kliti ksksu?  have u ever eaten couscous?
-wash 3mmru tassl biya?     has he ever called me?
-wash 3mmrha safrat l-kharij?   has she ever been abroad?
-wash 3mmrna zurnah ?    have we ever visited him ?
-wash 3mmrkum mshitu l-italya?   have you ever gone to italy ?
- wash 3mmrhum tla9au ?  have they ever met ?
·      I have never... ma+3mmr...
- wash 3mmri aditk ?      have i ever hurt you ?
-ma 3mmri/3mmrni aditk .      i have  never hurt you .
- wash 3mmrk kliti ksksu?  have u ever eaten couscous?
-ma  3mmrk  kliti ksksu.         you have never eaten couscous.
- wash 3mmru tassl biya?     has he ever called me?
-ma 3mmru tassl biya .   he has never called me .
- wash 3mmrha safrat l kharij ?   has she ever been abroad?
-ma 3mmrha safrat l -kharij .   she has never been abroad.
-wash 3mmrkum mshitu l-itaya? have you ever gone to italy ?
-ma 3mmrkum mshitu l-italya    you have never gone to italy..
- wash 3mmrhum tla9au ?  have they ever met ?
-ma 3mmrhum tla9au . they have never met .
*Exercise:
Fill in with appropriate word : 3mmri / 3mmrk/ 3mmru/ 3mmrha/ 3mmrkum/ 3mmrhum/ 3mmrna.
- wash 3mmri aditk?  have i ever hurt you?
                     - ma............... aditini .   you have never hurt me .
- wash......... ta9ti fiya ?  have you ever trusted me ?
                     - ma 3mmri taqt fik.   i have never trusted you .
