"Wh" Question words with past tense

In this lessons you are going to learn how to use question words  with past tense.

- why (3lash)   علاش

 - where (feen)  فـين

- when (imta  or foqash)    فوقاش ، إمتَ

- what time (ina u9ita)   إنَ وقِتَ

- Question (1)   3lash ???

·         3lash msheti = why did you go ?

-Answer.

·         kan 3ndi muw3id.    i had an appointment.

·         7it kan 3ndi muw3id.    because i had an appointment.

·         mshet hit kan 3ndi muw3id.    i went because i had an appointment.

·          

rule 1: 3lash asks for a reason

question (2) feen = (where) .

·         feen msheti?  where did u go ?

Ø  kunt f l couzina. I was in the kitchen.

·         feen mshat ? where did she go ?

Ø  mshat l khdma. she went to work.

·         feen msha ? where did he go ?

Ø  msha y zur khtu f fes, he went to visit his sister in fes.

·         feen mshaw ? where did they go ?

Ø  msawh y shrew tomobila jdida. they went to buy a new car.

rule (2) feen asks for a location

question (3) imta, foqash ( when)

·         imta safarti ? when did u travel?

Ø  safart simana l fayta, i traveled last week

·         foqash safrat ? when did she travel?

Ø  safrat lbar7  f  sba7.     she traveled yesterday morning.

·         foqash safar ?   when did he travel?

Ø  safar larb3  f  la3shiya.    he traveled wednesday evening.

·         imta safro ?    when did they travel ?

Ø  safro had sbah.      they traveled this morning.

 rule (3) imta asks for a time

question (4) ina wqita what time

·         ina wqita faqti ?    what time did u wake up?

Ø  faqt m3a 7.00 d sba7 .    i woke up at seven oclock.

ina wqita = m3ayash معياش 

·         m3ayash faqti ?

Ø  had sba7  fa9t  m3a l’ 10 .     this morning i woke up at 10 oclock.

Ø  Fa9t had sba7 m3a l’ 10  . i woke up this morning at 10 oclock.

rule (4) ina wqita/ m3ayash asks for a specific time.

·  - the expressions imta, foqash and ina uqita or m3ayash both ask for time information.

·

·   - ina uqita is very specific , usually asking for clock time.

·

·   - imta can be used with any time expression.
